As American as Applie Pie

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Jordan, Eric, and I have been driving out to the naval/air force base in Sigonella to help coach a youth baseball team. (I'm more of a supporter than a coach :) ) Today was their first game! Their team name is The Bulls, and since there aren't very many kids in that age group playing baseball, they play the same team 5 times! We have made friends with the Chaplain and his family and his oldest daughter Katie plays on the team! She is a super athlete and arguably one of the best players on the team! She plays shortstop and pitcher and man is she fast! Nate and I sat with the Chaplain's wife and her parents and enjoyed a great game and an absolutely beautiful day! Jordan was the behind-the-plate ump (he was SO excited!) and Eric was the umpire out in the field. The game was 0-0 until the very end . . . the other team had the bases loaded and the batter had 3 balls and 2 strikes. Katie was pitching and ended up walking in a run for the other team. Oh well! She was such a good sport about it! Jordan got hit by a rogue pitch in the collarbone during the game and he was also a really good sport about it :) Here are some pics of the game complete with Katie batting and Jordan 'umping'! It's not often that Mount Etna is the backdrop for a little league game . . .

One of the coaches, John, was kind enough to go to the commisary and buy some velveeta and salsa for us so that we can celebrate Cinco de Mayo the right way . . . tex-mex style! He and his wife also invited us to their house next Tuesday after practice for beers and steaks! He definitely knows what the boys like! We can't wait!
Tonight is our Sicily family Cinco de Mayo celebration and I can't wait to share the pics/stories with you! I've got my mexican top on and I'm ready for fajitas, chips & salsa, and QUESO!!!

Love you all!
Feliz cinco de Mayo familia y amigos!
